US Officials Report Concern Over Lack of Clear Decision-Maker in Tehran
The report said negotiators still believe a deal to end the conflict and address remaining issues around Iran’s nuclear program could be possible. However, they worry that internal divisions may prevent any final approval from the Iranian side.
It also claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is “barely communicating,” while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and civilian negotiators are reportedly divided over strategy.
According to the same report, this internal split has been worsened by earlier Israeli actions targeting senior Iranian security figures, including the reported killing of Ali Larijani, which disrupted coordination within Iran’s security and political system.
The report further stated that a new security official appointed afterward has struggled to align the positions of Iran’s military leadership, civilian negotiators, and the supreme leadership.
It also noted that through Pakistani intermediaries, Iran briefly signaled openness to talks on Monday evening, but by the next morning shifted its stance, instead demanding an end to what it described as a US naval blockade.
Trump reportedly believes the United States has already achieved most of what it can through military pressure and is seeking to wind down involvement in the conflict. However, the report added that if diplomatic efforts fail within the expected timeframe, further military options could return to consideration.
